Leaders of Turn Up Turnout, the University’s student-led voter engagement organization discuss the ways they work to sustain a campus culture of voting through peer-to-peer interaction. Maurielle Courtois, BA ’25, Hillary Poudeu Tchokothe, BA ’26, and Rose Reilly, BA ’24 discuss their leadership and how they train, mentor, and encourage new leaders in civic engagement.

Maurielle Courtois

Maurielle Courtois

Student

Maurielle Courtois is an Asian American student who is passionate about human rights. She grew up in Lancaster, PA and at an early age was interested in civil rights, which blossomed into activism. Now, as a political science student at the University of Michigan, she can branch out her beliefs and knowledge with some of the best. Maurielle feels it is an honor to be involved with Turn Up Turnout (TUT) and the dedicated faculty, staff, and students that help.

Hillary Poudeu Tchokothe

Student

Hillary Poudeu Tchokothe is a sophomore at the University and is double majoring in Political Science and History. She hopes to do a dual JD/PhD program and become a civil rights attorney and a social historian. She is passionate about voting rights which is what led her to join TUT. She loves that TUT is student-led and allows her to help students all around campus be more civically engaged!

Rose Reilly

Rose Reilly

Student

Rose Reilly is a senior in the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. She has been passionate about nonpartisan voting rights advocacy and civic engagement since she was in high school. After graduating, she will be going to law school to pursue a career in Election Law and Voting Rights Litigation. TUT has been one of the most important learning opportunities of her undergraduate experience and she hopes to get more students involved!
